THE PROMISE

by Dale Simmons 11/06/2005

Today as I write I am overwhelmed at the depth of the love of God. He is full of grace…He is longsuffering…He is a merciful God. He could have annihilated Adam and Eve from the face of the earth but He loved His creation far more than that. Instead, He made a promise that through the seed of Eve would come salvation for mankind. The sin issue had to be fully addressed. As long as man was enslaved by it they would never have the communion with God that He so desired they have. So, simply put, in God’s wisdom, sin entered the world through a man so through a man it must be conquered and defeated.

As God formed the first man Adam from the dust of the earth and breathed life into him so did His Spirit breathe life into the womb of Mary and she conceived with child. God could have formed a new man from the dust as He did at first but that would not have accomplished anything. This man…the second man Adam had to have his roots in sinful man. That bit of knowledge should dispel all eternal co-existent theories that so many persons have founded their teachings on. The Son did not exist before conception any more than you or I existed before we were conceived in the womb of our mothers. Truly He was preordained, part of the plan of God, prophesied about throughout the ages, but did not exist at all until his conception and birth. God communed with Adam in the garden. He walked and talked with him. The second man Adam, Jesus, the Son of God was born with the spirit of God residual inside him. Instead of just outwardly communicating with God, he was inhabited by the spirit of the Almighty God. The Spirit communed to the spirit of the man from within. In the man Christ Jesus dwelt the fullness of the Godhead bodily. The sovereign God had made man His habitation. Adam had to meet with God in the garden…the children of Israel had to meet with Him in tents, tabernacles and temples…now God met with man from within the man.

Jesus…what a majestic name! Throughout history God was known by many names, all depicting His power, glory and kingship. All names have meaning. The name of Jesus, Emmanuel…God with us! The name of Jesus…God has become our salvation! God vested all power in heaven and earth in the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus was above every name that had ever been named. The only begotten Son of God took on the name of God, his heavenly, spiritual father. God chose Jesus Christ to be the first born of many children of God. He was the anointed One…He knew He had been born for a purpose. God abided in Him and He chose to abide in God. He faced every temptation to sin just as all of us do, yet He chose not to sin. He would not exalt Himself above God. He realized that if he sinned and defiled Himself in any way, that His disobedience would result in imminent spiritual death and that He would fail the purpose of God for the redemption of the whole human race. The indwelling of the spirit of God gave him the power to overcome all temptations and the Adamic nature that He was born with. He was the chosen one…He was God’s Word in flesh…He was the fulfillment of God’s promise to Eve...to Abraham…to David…to the nation of Israel…to the whole world. The man Christ Jesus and God His heavenly Father were one. He was, as we are, created in the likeness and the image of God, yet He was in the form of God spiritually. He was robed in flesh yet spiritually He was all that God is. When men encountered Him they met not only Him but God His Heavenly Father also. The man Christ Jesus was our example. We too must consciously decide to take on the name of God. His name is Jesus. Only God’s spirit can rebirth us in that name. We must be born again. We are to be a people called by HIS NAME.
