THINGS THAT DEFILE THE MAN FROM WITHIN

Sins Defined                                                           by Pastor Marvin Simmons 

The following list of definitions is given in order to shed some light on at least some of the words used in the list of sins.  This list is by no means complete but is offered as an aid in this study.

     1.     MURDER - To unlawfully kill a human being; to slay; to assassinate, execute.

    2.     ADULTRIES - Voluntary sexual relations of a married person with any other than the lawful mate.

    3.     FORNICATION – (Greek) “Porneuo” – to act the harlot; to indulge in unlawful lust (of either sex).

·  Note: I Corinthians 5:11 – Fornicator – (Greek.) “Pornos” – A male prostitute.  Also the word from which pornography is taken.

    4.     THEFTS – Act of stealing.

    5.     FALSE WITNESS – “a bearer of untrue testimony; to offer false evidence.  (Strong’s)

    6.     BLASPHEMIES – to speak evil of defame, railings (against God). (Strong’s)

    7.     COVETEOUSNESS – Overly desirous of things belonging to others; greedy.

    8.     DECEIT – Act or fact of deceiving by a dishonest means; lying or cheating.

    9.     LASCIVIOUSNESS – Outrageous behavior, showing, feeling, and causing lust; unrestrained, indecent conduct.

10.     PRIDE – A high opinion of one’s self, own worth or possessions.

11.     FOOLISHNESS – Like a fool; unwise; without sense; silly.

12.     MALICIOUSNESS – Spiteful, showing active ill will; wishing to hurt others.

13.     ENVY – Ill will; jealousness.  (Strong’s)

14.     DEBATE – Quarrel; wrangle; contention.

15.     MALIGNITY – Bad character; mischievous.

16.     WHISPERERS – By implication a slander; secret distraction. (Strong’s)

17.     BACKBITERS – To slander a person in their absence.

18.     DESPITEFUL – Showing contempt; scorn; injury.

19.     PROUD – Thinking too well of oneself, arrogant, haughty.

20.     BOASTERS – Praising oneself, bragging.

21.     IMPLACABLE – Cannot be appeased; unforgiving; literally truceless. (Strong’s)

22.     UNMERCIFUL – Not having nor showing mercy.

23.     RIOTING – Noisy; reveling; a drinking party.

24.     CHAMBERING – Sexual intercourse; lewdness; whoredoms. (Harpers Greek Lexicon)

25.     WANTONNESS – Immoral living; to live an impious life. (Harpers Greek Lexicon)

26.     STRIFE – Quarrel; discord; conflict.

27.     EXTORTION – To seize, take away by force or fraud, illegal, use of authority.

28.     RAILERS – Complain bitterly; use violent and reproachful language.

29.     EFFEMINATE – Delicate and instrument of unnatural lust. (Harpers Greek Lexicon)

Lacking in manly qualities; womanish. (Thorndike Barnhart Dictionary)

30.     REVILERS – Heap reproaches on; abuse with words.

31.     THIEVES – Those who engage in the act of stealing.

32.     WRATHS – (Greek THUMOS) passion (as if breathing hard); fierceness; indignation.

33.     SWELLINGS – To make proud; puff up; haughtiness.

34.     TUMULTS – A violent disturbance or disorder; commotions.

35.     UNCLEANNESS – Impurity; filthiness (both physically and morally).

36.     WITCHCRAFT – Derived from the Greek word PHARMAKEUS (pharmacist) meaning a drug or a spell giving portion; 

a magician; magic powers or influence.

37.     HATRED – Detest; abhor; loathe; despise.

38.     VARIANCE – (Greek ERIS) – meaning a quarrel, wrangling, contention, debate, strife.

39.     EMULATIONS – (Greek ZELOS) – meaning hate; also jealousy; indignation.

40.     SEDITIOUS – Speech or action causing discontent; disunity; rebellion.

41.     HERESIES – Any belief which is held while being in contradiction to the principles set forth in the Word of God.

42.     REVELLINGS – Merrymaking; carousal; rioting.

43.     JESTING – Joking in fun and not serious.

44.     CLAMOR – To demand or complain noisily.

45.     INORDINATE AFFECTION – Lustful; passionate.

46.     INCONTINENT – Without self-control.

47.     FIERCE – Violent; cruel; savage.

48.     HEADY – Haste, rash in judgment; quick to judge.

49.     HIGHMINDED – To be lifted up in pride; to inflate with self-conceit.

50.     ABOMINABLE – Detestable, disgusting in manner and actions.

51.     GUILE – Trickery; deceit; subtlety.

52.     PROFANE – Heathenish; wicked. Act of violating sacred things.

53.     BANQUETINGS – A drinking bout or carousal.

54.     PERJURED PERSON – One who swears that something is true while knowing it to be false.

55.     EVIL CONCUPISCENCE – To crave, to long for that which is forbidden.
